NEW YORK — Rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine was taken to the hospital after he was kidnapped, pistol-whipped and robbed,  Reports.


Sources told TMZ the 22-year-old Brooklyn-born rapper, whose birth name is Daniel Hernandez, was driving home after working on a music video in Brooklyn when a car pulled up and blocked his driveway.



Three hooded gunmen got out the car and allegedly knocked the rapper unconscious and put him in the back seat of their car, threatening to kill him if he didn’t comply with their demands.


The gunmen returned to Hernandez’s home, with the rapper still in the car, and allegedly took about $750,000 worth of jewelry and between $15,000 and $20,000 in cash.


The gunman drove away with Hernandez still in the back car, sources tell TMZ, but he was able to jump out and run away. A stranger called 911 and he was taken to the hospital.

Google Doodle celebrates renowned conductor Kurt Masur 91st Birthday

Considered one of the last old-style maestros, Masur (pronounced mah-ZOOR) spent much of his career in East Germany, serving as music director of Leipzig's Gewandhaus Orchestra for 26 years. Later, he would lead the New York Philharmonic for 11 years, reinvigorating an orchestra previously known for years of lackluster performances.



But it's Masur's efforts orchestrating peace that Google highlights in a doodle Wednesday celebrating the conductor's 91st birthday. In 1989, when Leipzig was at the center of the pro-democracy movement that resulted in the fall of the Berlin Wall, Masur was part of a group that helped avert a confrontation between protesters and police that could have led to bloodshed.



As Leipzig's streets filled with thousands of protesters, Masur used his influence as Gewandhaus' leader to convene a meeting of musicians, dissidents, police and Communist Party officials that drafted a statement calling for nonviolence and open dialogue. A month later, East Germany's Communist government was toppled in a bloodless revolution.



In 1991, Masur moved on to the New York Philharmonic, where a decade later he would again employ the healing powers of music in the aftermath of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Nine days after the attacks left New York City physically and emotionally battered, Masur led the orchestra in a nationally broadcast performance of Brahms' "German Requiem." The New York Times called the performance "his finest hour, and a gift to the city."

For his global cultural and humanitarian accomplishments, Masur received multiple honors, including Grand Officer of the Legion of Honor from the French government, New York City Cultural Ambassador, Commander Cross of Merit of the Polish Republic, Honorary Citizen of Bridge, the Leo Baeck Medal for promoting tolerance and social justice, and a Goldene Henne award for his work in public policy.



Born on July 18, 1927, in the Prussian town of Brieg (now in Poland), Masur trained as a pianist, organist, cellist and percussionist until the age of 16, when an injury to his right hand ended his playing ambitions and led him to concentrate on conducting.



Masur, who died in 2015 at the age of 88, is depicted in Wednesday's doodle conducting an orchestra without a baton, due to his childhood injury.

"The main purpose of eating fruits as mid-meal snacks is replenishing our body's store of electrolytes," says Dr. Dutta, adding that if you consume your daily fruit portion during lunch, then you may have to forgo the snack.


However, celebrity acupuncturist and beauty expert Dr. Jewel Gamadia has something else to say. Recently, he said on his Instagram page that one should avoid eating fruits with meals, saying, "It's not a good idea for those who suffer from digestive issues. Every food has a different enzyme to digest. The enzymes needed for a normal meal are very different than those needed for fruits. Hence, it makes a problem with your stomach.


So, try having fruit after some time." What about fruit juices? Dr. Dutta says that it's okay to drink fresh fruit juices with your meals if you are not restricting your daily calorie count. Also, as a general rule, it's healthier to consume whole foods rather than juicing them.

By now you’d have to be living under a rock not to know about Build-a-Bear’s promotional fiasco this week. The retailer had to play Scrooge as it was forced to shut down its “pay your age” promotion because of ridiculously long lines and crowd safety concerns. Extensive media coverage of "mobs of kids in tears" probably wasn’t what the company had in mind when it decided to promote its birthday program. CEO Sharon Price John described the premature shutdown as "heartbreaking."


H.L. Mencken’s famous observation (actually a paraphrase of what he wrote in 1926) “You can never go broke underestimating the taste of the American public” was perhaps a bit harsh. But we can’t dispute the American public’s taste for a bargain.



As a result, the marketing graveyard is littered with promotions that worked too well because they grossly underestimated just how much demand was out there for their tempting offers. Many of these prior fiascos happened to food and beverage companies such as McDonald’s, Red Lobster and Dr. Pepper. Just last year, McDonald’s found itself in the crosshairs when it offered a limited-edition run of the Szechuan sauce it first rolled out when the film Mulan debuted in 1998. (The Adult Swim comedy Rick & Morty created a new generation of fans when it featured the sauce in its most recent season.) Near riots ensued, and one fan even traded his car for a packet of the sauce. But McDonald’s was eventually able to assuage fans when it brought the sauce back on a wider scale this year. It’s not clear that Build-a-Bear will get a similar chance to make good on its broken promise.




The chance to connect with a cult TV show by consuming its “secret sauce” is one thing. But what motivates devoted parents to wait in line for up to nine hours to save somewhere south of $20 on a teddy bear? Sure, everyone likes to save a few bucks, but our thirst for these bargains runs deeper (cue the promos for Amazon’s Prime Day).



First and foremost, the Build-a-Bear fiasco reminds us that FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) is not just an online phenomenon – although online behavior fuels the fire exponentially. We know that many American parents are, shall we say, a bit competitive. They’re not going to stand idly by while their kids’ friends snag a cool new teddy bear and their little prince or princess goes empty-handed. Some economists suggest that exciting new market entries can become "phantastic objects" that skew our sense of reason as we suspend logic to pursue them. After all, this is our kids we’re talking about here! And the relative scarcity of these furry finds of course enhances the need to procure one – now. (Suddenly, repressed memories from long ago of scurrying for what’s left of rare Beanie Babies to delight my daughters enter my mind.)



Providing the very best for our kids – sometimes at all costs – is an integral part of our parental self-concepts. The sacrifice involved in wasting a perfectly good day standing in a line ironically may enhance the experience for some grown-ups who want to know that they went all out for the cause (and perhaps have a story to boast about when the ordeal is finally over).


We see a somewhat related phenomenon when we look at one of the drivers that motivates people to donate to charitable causes: These appeals work better when the donor has to suffer or sacrifice to a small degree; think about the hugely successful “ice-bucket challenge” that raised millions to combat A.L.S. Researchers call this the martyrdom effect.


Then, as with just about everything else, social media throws fuel on the fire. As the word spreads about a promotion like this, we can expect to see the process of social contagion kick in. This means that many moms and dads (and probably the kids themselves) are motivated to spread the news to others in their networks (probably after they are safely in line). As a result we see the related process of behavioral contagion, where we repeat what those around us do. The event tends to feed on itself (think about fads like Pet Rocks) as it draws more and more people into its vortex. The flame will eventually burn out on its own, but in this case it burned so brightly that the sponsor was forced to step in and throw cold water on it.

The "overwhelming" response to a sale event at Build-A-Bear Workshop prompted the retailer to shut down long lines outside stores across the United States and Canada.

Crowds waited outside stores well before opening time on Thursday. The retailer announced before noon it was cutting off lines and not accepting more customers "due to crowds and safety concerns" from local authorities.

"Based on the information available to us before the day began, we could not have predicted this unprecedented reaction to our Pay Your Age Day event," Build-A-Bear said.
Build-A-Bear announced its Pay Your Age event earlier this week. Customers who show up at the stores can pay their current age for the popular stuffed animals. On Wednesday, the retailer wrote on its Facebook page that it was "anticipating the potential of long lines and wait times."
Shoppers braving the wait times shared photos and videos of lines snaking down the halls of malls and shopping areas.


Allison Viron, from McMurray, Pennsylvania, got in line outside the Build-A-Bear South Hills Village location in Pittsburgh around 9:15 a.m. to get stuffed animals for her daughters, Caroline and Catharine, ages 1 and 3.


"The line was cut off sometime in the 10 a.m. hour," Viron said, adding that she was still in line inside the store at 4 p.m., and there were "hundreds of people behind" her.

Alex Sullivan took her 4-year-old daughter Madison to the Westfield Countryside Mall in Clearwater, Florida. They arrived shortly before 8 a.m.

Sullivan said doors opened earlier and they were able to leave the mall -- with a stuffed animal that smelled like cotton candy and a happy child -- before 1 p.m.

"It was obviously very difficult for [the store] to control the line and the people in it or trying to get in it or around it," Sullivan said. "However, the staff members inside the store still did an amazing job making the experience special for children making their build-a-bears."

The coupons will be honored through August 31, the statement said.


"Our goal with the voucher extension is to enable us to better flow traffic to the stores over the next several weeks to avoid long lines and wait times as much as possible," the store added in the statement.

The baby was born last night in an Atlanta hospital, as per TMZ, with Offset said to be standing by her side throughout the process.


It has been a long time coming, and it's great to see that Cardi B and Offset's new baby has entered the world healthy and well loved. Congrats to the couple, and for those romantics among us, remember that parenthood will only bring them closer.
